It's Been a While....

It has been a long time since I've blogged about what I'm reading and mainly it's because I've been so busy! What is it about holidays that just throws you completely off your normal schedule? Now that the holidays are over, for now, I can get back to my love of reading. No more shopping all day for gifts for friends and family, being in a December wedding, or working like crazy.

Before I go pick up High Five by Janet Evanovich I want to share some books I got for Christmas. First in my pile is Staying Strong by Demi Lovato which is book that has an inspiring quote for each day and also a goal. I got this book because I love Demi Lovato because she is so open about the struggles she has gone through and I'm glad she is sharing and inspiring others. Young girls need a good role model like her. The second book I got for Christmas is Spoiled by Heather Cocks and Jessica Morgan. Spoiled is about a girl who discovers her dad is a world famous movie star and she moves out to LA and meets her half sister who welcomes her to Hollywood but not everything is how it seems. The third book I got was Bad Heir Day by Wendy Holden. The front of the book says "a comedy of high class and dire straits." Sounds good to me! And lastly the one I am super excited about is Melissa Explains It All by Melissa Joan Hart. LOVE HER! I use to watch Sabrina the Teenage Witch and Clarissa Explains It All. I haven't seen her new show Melissa and Joey but I am looking forward to reading her book. I like to learn from the actors perspective of everything they did and what really goes on behind the scenes.

Hope everyone had a great holiday with their friends and family and maybe you got some great books too! Thanks for being here- Curious Reader xo

*Edit: I feel terrible I forgot two other books I got for Christmas, sorry Mom! I also got Let Me Off At The Top by Ron Burgundy which of course is a hilarious book written by Ron Burgundy from Anchorman. Love that movie and I can't wait to see the second one! The other book I forgot is Bridget Jones Mad About The Boy by Helen Fielding. It's about Bridget Jones in her "middle age" life. I am excited to see where she is in life and what other ridiculous thing Bridget is going to do. I have to admit I haven't read the previous books but I did see the movies and own them because I love Bridget Jones. Maybe I should read the other books before this one... hmm...

Gossip Girl by Cecily von Ziegesar

Do I really need to explain what this book is about? I pretty sure just about everyone has heard of either the books or the hit TV show on the CW. In college my roommate and I would host viewing parties for our hall. It was so much fun to have our hall all hang out watching Gossip Girl and eating pizza. Oh I miss those days! When the show first came out I had not read any of the books but my roommate did and she got me interested in watching the show... and it was amazing! Love the show and watched the first couple season but then life got busy and I just didn't follow it so not really sure how it ends since I never read the book or seen the end of the show. But I do know that I want Serena and Dan to be together for life and Chuck and Blair deserve each other and need to be married and have tons of kids together.

I picked up the book at the library because I wanted a quick read (it's only 202 pages) and like I said I've watched a bit of the show and wanted to see what the books were all about. Guess I'm starting a new series. I tend to read series a lot and not sure how that always happens. O well I'm enjoying the book and love that I can picture the TV shows actors as the characters in the book. Casting for Gossip Girls was just about spot on except for a few details with Jenny. No offense to Taylor Momsen but she does not look like a 34D and of course she does not have brown curly hair. However she is the perfect Jenny. Anyways, I'm excited to keep reading what's going on with Blair, Serena, Nate, Chuck, Dan, Jenny, Vanessa, and so many more. You know you love me- Gossip girl.

Last Christmas by Kate Brian

Last Christmas by Kate Brian is the prequel to the Private series. I'm just going to quote the back of the book for the summary of the book because I don't want to give anything away. The back of the book says, "Before Reed Brennan came to Easton Academy...Before Thomas Pearson was murdered... Before Ariana Osgood became Easton's most notorious student... She was just another girl at boarding school. Discover the secret that changed everything."

Pretty interesting right? I thought so too! I have never read any of the Private books but I heard about this book and didn't realize it was part of a series but I thought since it was the prequel I could probably understand everything. This book was CRAZY! Ariana is a psycho as you learn early on in the book. I mean the author doesn't come out and say it but trust me she is and you'll understand as soon as you start reading. I had to reread the prologue three times while reading the book. This was such an easy read and I have lost a lot of sleep over it because I would stay up late to read it even when I had to get up really early. I'm in shock of this book because I can't believe some of the stuff in this book. Makes me wonder what the series is like... I think this series is an older one because this book's copyright is 2008. Have you read any of the Private books? Heard anything about them? Have you read this one?

The Daughters by Joanna Philbin

The Daughters by Joanna Philbin is about three girls who are daughters of a successful musician, model, and a media mogul. The girls are all best friends and go to the same expensive high school. The book is mainly about the three girls finding their own way to success and trying to step out of the shadow of their famous parents but sometimes things don't always go as planned.

I was in the library and I was walking by the young adult shelf and for some reason this book just caught my eye so I decided to check it out and read it. At first I wasn't so sure about it because it seemed like with in the first two chapters I already could see how it would end but to my surprise it actually was pretty good and not as predictable as I thought. I have to admit there were times when I hated the one character Lizzie because she was acting like a stupid teenager but I should have expected that since it is a young adult book about high school girls. Also I didn't really read about the author till I was almost finished and found out that Joanna is the daughter of Regis Philbin. I think it's pretty awesome that she is following her own dreams of writing and she is in fact quite good at it. All in all I thought it was a really good book and the ending left such a cliffhanger for the next book I almost want to forget work and get the next book but obviously it will have to wait till after work. Besides I still have another book that I check out of the library to read first.

Size 12 and Ready to Rock by Meg Cabot

Size 12 and Ready to Rock is the fourth book in the Heather Wells series. Heather Wells was a pop star back in her teenage years but she was dropped from her label because she started having her own mind and wanted to do her own songs which the label did not like. Now Heather is a residence hall assistant for "death dorm" at New York College. In this book Heather's ex-boyfriend's wife and famous pop star Tania Trace is holding a teen rock camp where Heather works. Things don't start out well when the producer of a reality show featuring Tania Trace ends up dead.

I love the Heather Wells series because not only is Heather now a normal girl in her mid-twenties she also has had a lot happen to her. In each of the books there is always some type of mystery that keeps you wanting more page after page. I can usually read these books pretty fast because I never want to put them down. I can't wait to start the next one in the series but I think first I'm going to read a different book I checked out from the library. I love Cabot's writing because her characters seem to be witty and pretty down to earth. I want to be best friends with Heather Wells and I definitely want to date Cooper Cartwright. You don't know who Cooper Cartwright is??? Well guess you'll have to read the books! Start with the first one which is Size 12 is Not Fat.
